In Sydney while at the Black Dog Insitute and now at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Brisbane I coordinate our EEG lab where we collect data using Brainproducts and ANT Neuro systems from healthy subjects, volunteers with mood disorders and more recently with schizophrenia during various experimental paradigms. These include psychophysiology manipulations such as resting state,visual working memory, vibrotactile stimulation and auditory oddball paradigms.
I'm mostly focused on data analysis techniques using Brain Vision Analyzer and custom-built scripts in matlab, where various techniques are employed to disentangle the experimental effects, some treatment dependent using TMS or tDCS, from the EEG recordings. In particular, we use ICA for removing artifacts arising from eye blinks, heart rate and neck muscles and such preprocessing is essential for reliable estimations of non-linear interactions between EEG channels to ensure extraction of salient features from our EEG data. I collaborate on projects with varying research goals in the context of clinical neuroscience and mental health.
